Biofilm Control in Pharmaceutical Water Systems
T.C. Soli, Soli Pharma Solutions, Inc.
In this workshop will be explained the USP’s public comment and revision
process, as well as the USP’s roles in regulating water for the
pharmaceutical industry, and educating users on the basics of microbial
monitoring and control. Attendees will also learn from the instructor
practical information about biofilm, and why it is so difficult to
control, specifics regarding successful, and not-so-successful biofilm
control approaches, and why, and the role of properly applied concepts
of Specifications, Action Levels, and Alert Levels in making
high-quality water. Along the way, a few commonly held water system
design, control, and monitoring myths will be debunked.
Instructor Teri C. (T.C.) Soli, Ph.D., is president of Soli Pharma
Solutions, Inc, with lecturing, auditing, and troubleshooting expertise
covering water systems, sterilization, aseptic processing, contamination
control, and microbiological laboratories. He has more than 31 years of
pharmaceutical experience as a consultant and with DSM Pharmaceuticals,
Glaxo Wellcome, Burroughs Wellcome, and Pfizer. He is in his third 5
year term on USP Expert Committees responsible for Pharmaceutical Water,
is the primary author of USP’s Informational Chapter <1231> on
pharmaceutical water, and helped develop the Water Conductivity and TOC
specifications used by USP and adopted worldwide.
Exhibit hours: Tuesday: 9:00 AM-7:00 PM; Wednesday: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.
