Abstract

Corrosion has a significant impact in industry, including the electric utility industry where it impacts reliability and cost. According to Materials Performance, during the period of 1975 to 1985, some 50% of all outages were corrosion related. Based on Electric Power Research Institute data , after fuel-related corrosion, the largest fossil steam power plantメs corrosion cost (approximately 25%) is boiler waterside/steamside corrosion. Corrosion is also the largest cause of boiler tube failures, and the largest cause of forced loss of production. Therefore, it behooves the plant, utility, and industry to strive to have an excellent chemistry program to mitigate corrosion, improve reliability, and reduce costs. Article issues focused on includeconservation, environment, FGD, reverse osmosis, and wastewater.
