Abstract

As required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is gathering public comments regarding the existing National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWRs) to determine if any parts of those rules need revision. The agency has completed its own review and it recommending four revisions related to acrylamide, epichlorohydrin, tetrachloroethylene, and trichloroethylene. The deadline for any comments is by or before May 28, 2010. This article will briefly highlight the EPAﾒs review and recommendations as reported in the Federal Register (1). While the focus of this article is on drinking water, any action by the EPA could affect the water business in a twofold manner: 1. it would impact any facility that is required to use water meeting EPA Drinking Water Standards; and 2. regulatory changes could create water business opportunities for monitoring products and treatment technologies to better remove these 4 water contaminants.
