Multibillion-dollar business. This term accurately reflects the state of the domestic and international water business. Many attempts are made to define the markets, and multiple market studies have been issued over the years that have attempted to explain the water business and where market opportunities may lie. This is popular informationï¾—especially for individuals and companies seeking to chart their way to sales growth. This article will briefly report on some recent market studies touching different areas of the water business. High-Purity Water Treatment McIlvaine Co. (1) said that it estimates the high-purity water market will be more that $3.8 billion this year. Table A lists the market segments and their projected sales. The largest market is semiconductors at $1.3 billion. The other markets include coal-fired power plants, more that $1 billion; flat panel display, $529 million; pharmaceutical, $398 million; industrial power, $326 million; industrial power, $326.6 million; other industries, $178 million; and gas turbines, $66 million.
