Abstract

The market for industrial desalination is set to approach the $10 billion mark by 2025, driven by the increasing demand for desal in both the production of fresh water for use in key industries, and for the treatment of saline wastewater streams. According to figures from the Global Water Intelligence (GWI) primary research report (1) into the industrial water market (see Figure 1), the market for high-purity water, seawater desalination and wastewater desalination treatment in seven key industries will be worth $9.9 billion in 2025. The largest single contributor will be the need for fresh water in the power generation business, although all of the industrial sectors tracked are expected to see significant growth.
