Abstract

Water conservation has long been practiced in arid regions. However, with the current fad toward モall things greenヤ, the phrase is now in vogue, along with the モreuseヤ and モreclaim,ヤ as greater emphasis is placed on the careful use of water. In places facing water shortagesラeither because of heavy industrial activity, agricultural irrigation, or denser populationsラconservation, tied in with reclaim and reuse is viewed as the best way to stretch water supplies. However, from that point there are two schools of thought. On the one side, are those who think that little or no effort should be given toward finding additional water supplies. Advocates of this position are strong advocates for water-saving toilets and home appliances (dishwashers and washing machines), limited irrigation, efforts by industrial plants to minimize water use, drought-resistant landscaping, and higher water rates to force conservation.
