Is a New Water Treatment Paradigm Needed?

Abstract
What drives water treatment technology development? And, is there a need for a new approach to treatment?
The easy answer is research and development by water industry companies. The more nuanced response might be: “It depends.” Among factors that can impact water treatment systems include enduser needs, regulatory requirements, and tradition. So, let’s briefly examine those areas.
Enduser needs. Probably the biggest reason comes from changing needs at manufacturing facilities. A good model is the microelectronics industry.
